Read Between the Lines {of Code}

Read Between the Lines {of code} is a master thesis on learning, coding and free and open source software development. Based on three months of ethnographic research, it looks at technology as potentially flowing from, towards and in between individuals. Studying technological practices, rather than the technologies themselves shows they are inherently social and cultural.

The thesis studies the social, cultural and political connotations of free and open source softwaredevelopment. It engages with questions on how contributors to free and open source software development reason about development, community and learning. Moreover, it critically evaluates how certain liberal, technical or critical connotations are produced and attributed to these free and open source software development practices.
